The 136th Running of the Kentucky Oaks
The fillies run for the 136th time at the Kentucky Oaks. As old as the Derby, but still something of a "hidden gem", the Oaks is a fine way to enjoy the pageantry of the Derby without the big crowds the banner event attracts. The winning filly receives a garland of lillies instead of roses at the end of the race. The Oaks is the fillies' counterpart to the Derby's Triple Crown status, and is joined by the Black-Eyed Susan Stakes and the Acron Stakes as counter-parts to the Preakness and Belmont Stakes respectively. Oaks attendance regularly outstrips the Triple Crown counterparts Preakness and Belmont.
